외교저널 (Diplomacy Journal) 이정하 기자 | 이 단은 진주성의 임진대첩과 계사순의 때에 순절한 호국영령을 기리기 위하여 진주시민의 소망을 담아 문화공보부와 진주시가 세운 제단이다. 1986년 12월에 공사를 시작하여 1987년 12월에 마쳤다.

단의 크기는 가로 18m, 세로 24m, 높이 3.6m이고 3단으로 이루어진 네모난 단 위에 가로 9.7m, 높이 3.5m의 대첩비를 세웠다. 단의 왼쪽과 오른쪽 옆면에는 돋을새김으로 당시의 역사적 장면을 표현하였고, 앞뒤 면에는 임진대첩과 계사순의의 역사적 기록을 새겼다.

목숨을 바쳐 나라를 지킨 호국영령들을 기리고, 그들의 역사 정신을 가슴 깊이 이어 받고자 이 단을 세운다. 1987년12월

This memorial altar was built by the Ministry of Culture and Information jointly with the City Administration of Jinju to honor the heroic fighters who spent their lives in the two historic battles, Imjin Daecheop (1592) and Gyesa Sunui (1593), fought to protect the city against the Japanese invaders. The construction started in December 1986 and completed in the same month the following year.

The altar is 18m wid, 24m long and 3.6m tall, and has on its three-tier square base a monument 9.7m wide and 3.5m tall. The altar contains scenes of the historic battles carved in low relief on its both sides and records of the battles inscribed on the front and rear sides.
