외교저널 (Diplomacy Journal) 이정하 기자 | 박민식 국가보훈부 장관은 13일(수, 현지시간) 룩셈부르크 자비에 베텔 총리와 기욤 왕세자를 예방하고 양국의 국제보훈 협력 방안을 논의하는 등 연일 보훈외교 활동을 이어가고 있다. 이번 방문은 올해 정전 70주년을 계기로 룩셈부르크 정부 대표로 방한했던 자비에 베텔(Xaiver Bettel) 룩셈부르크 총리의 초청으로 이뤄졌다. 박민식 장관은 이날 자비에 베텔 총리와 조찬을 갖고 룩셈부르크 참전용사의 희생과 공헌에 대한 감사를 표했다. 룩셈부르크는 6·25전쟁 당시, 인구가 20만 명에 불과했음에도 지원병 100여 명을 파견, 벨기에군과 함께 많은 전공을 세웠다. 특히 1953년 2월, 철원 김화 잣골에서 55일 동안 중공군의 남하를 저지한 벨기에-룩셈부르크 대대의 투혼은 6·25전쟁에서 거둔 가장 값진 승전으로 기억되고 있다. 룩셈부르크는 전쟁 중 전사 2명, 13명이 부상을 당하는 희생을 겪기도 했다. 박민식 장관은 “룩셈부르크는 6·25전쟁에 자국 역사상 유일하게 외국에 전투부대를 파견한 우방국으로, 참전영웅들께서 참전에 대한 자부심
